100TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE REPUBLIC STUDENT CONCEPT PROJECT COMPETITION

GATHERING SPACES STUDENT CONCEPT PROJECT COMPETITION JURY REPORT

Three students applied to the competition, whose deadlines were on May 6, 2024. Below are the jury evaluations of these competitor’s' projects.

Project No. 15975

Conceptual ideas such as designing an area in the backyard for Altınbaş University students to interact and spend quality time with the pneumatic system produced in the project, and having each color and inflatable system elements represent different cultural riches in the design, were positively received by the jury. Also, technical features such as considering the use of environmentally friendly/recyclable materials and planning to design it in an easy-to-install, mobile/temporary layout approved by the jury. However, the fact that all these ideas existed only in the report written by the competitors and that the spatial equivalents of these ideas were weak in the designed production and did not reflect on the designed product were criticized by the jury.

In addition, the jury found it inadequate to explain the proposed design in a qualified manner using digital tools, and the language used was found to be weak in terms of terminology. Even though this study was suitable in terms of content, it was found to be weak in terms of spatial and graphic representation; For this reason, it could not place in the top three places and was deemed worthy of the incentive award.

Project No.  58730

It has been observed that the project sheets have a consistent and sufficient language in terms of graphics. Within the scope of the project, the proposal of functions that would provide service to multicultural environments such as celebration areas, cultural event performance areas, international cuisine stations, and language learning venues was positively received by the jury. However, although the ideas written in the project report and meeting many needs were developed, their spatial equivalents were not found mature enough in the project spaces. Extending beyond the scope of the land was found to be excessive and the proposal's evolution towards a too structural project was found negative by the jury. The project was deemed worthy of the incentive award by the jury, as it was deemed positive in terms of contributing to the area and meeting many student/campus needs.

Project No.  67295

The proposal based on a concept (Wigwam) and its interpretation and adaptation to the area were positively received by the jury. Although it was deemed positive that student needs were considered in detail and included in the project report, the variety of venues proposed for these needs was deemed insufficient. In addition, it was criticized that the project area was not defined and that it was not clearly stated on the maps where it would be located on the campus. Despite these, the project was deemed worthy of an incentive award because the idea of solving needs in the area through a certain keyword/concept was received positively.

--

In summary, although the ideas of the three projects mentioned above were found to be positive in themselves, the detailed conceptual contexts mentioned in the competitors' reports were deemed insufficient in terms of the features, quality and representation of the space in the proposals they designed, which prevented the projects from entering the first three places. However, it was unanimously decided to give incentive awards to the participating competitors for developing detailed ideas about the field and the subject, as stated in their reports.
