Access to Health Services and Quality in Health

Altınbaş University Health Management Department hosted the Seminar on Access to Health Services and Quality in Health with the participation of Demiroğlu Bilim University, İstanbul Sabahattin Zaim University and İstinye University.

The seminar was moderated by Dr. Özgül Özkoç, Head of the Department of Health Management, İstanbul Metropolitan Municipality Health and Sanitation Director Dr. Lecturer. Prof. Dr. Mustafa Hakan Türkyılmaz talked about the role of local governments in access to health services and preventive health services and the activities carried out by the Metropolitan Municipality.

ISU Health Management PhD Student and Family Physician Dr. Simay Hiçyılmaz explained the role of Family Physicians in Access to Health Services and their work.

Lawyer Mehmet Bülent Deniz, President of the Federation of Consumer Unions, shared the results of a small-scale public opinion survey conducted by the federation by mentioning the feedback from citizens on access to health services and the work carried out by the federation. Lawyer Deniz stated that 51% of the people who participated in the survey had problems in making appointments, however, the participants expressed positive opinions about the health professionals informing them.

Prof. Dr. Özgül Özkoç mentioned the Joint Commission International Accreditation Standards for Hospitals on Access to Health in Health Institutions. Özkoç, who has also published a book on Quality in Health Services, emphasized that it is important to ensure continuity of care as well as access to care and emphasized the standards in this regard.

In the panel, which was attended by a large number of students and faculty members, system proposals to increase access to health services were discussed with different viewpoints and questions from the participants were answered.
