Pharmacovigilance Seminar

Altınbaş University Faculty of Pharmacy, Department of Pharmacology organized a Pharmacovigilance Seminar.

Altınbaş University Faculty of Pharmacy, Department of Pharmacology organized a Pharmacovigilance Seminar. The aim of the seminar, which was attended by expert speakers in the field, was to explain the importance of pharmacovigilance on an international scale to pharmacy students and to inform them about current developments.


Seyfullah Dağıstanlı, President of the Turkish Pharmacovigilance Association, and Maria Teresa Herdeiro, Pharmacovigilance Expert from University of Aveira, Portugal, attended the seminar as speakers. 
The seminar, which attracted great interest from students, was moderated by Gaye Hafez, Assistant Professor of Pharmacology at Altınbaş University Faculty of Pharmacy. Hafez emphasized the importance of the studies carried out within the framework of pharmacovigilance to monitor and evaluate the safety and effectiveness of drugs following their introduction to the market. Gaye Hafez also stated that in this process, it is monitored whether there is an unexpected side effect of the drugs and stated that this is a very important issue for a pharmacist. 


Dr. Seyfullah Dağıstanlı, President of the Turkish Pharmacovigilance Association, who attended the seminar as a speaker, gave information about the development of pharmacovigilance, the establishment of TÜFAM in Türkiye and current processes. 


Dr. Maria Teresa Herdeiro, who attended the seminar online from Aveiro University in Portugal, shared the history of pharmacovigilance in Europe in her presentation titled "Regulatory Requirements for Safety and Risk Management in Post-Market Authorization Medicines". He particularly drew attention to the work carried out in important pharmaceutical authorities such as the European Medicines Agency (EMA).  

Participants gained valuable insights to better understand the role of pharmacovigilance at national and international level and to guide their future careers.
