Altınbaş University EVA TEAM Is Not Satisfied With Awards!

32 Projects in 6 years, 12 Awards including TEKNOFEST First Prize.

Altınbaş University's Electric Vehicle Team, EVA TEAM, founded in 2018, is celebrating its 6th anniversary. In these 6 years, the team has completed 32 projects and won a total of 12 awards in various categories, including the first prize in the 2023 TEKNOFEST competition. They are also ambitious for the 2024 TEKNOFEST competitions, where they will compete in 9 different categories.

EVA TEAM serves as an exemplary applied education model where students can translate theoretical concepts learned in classes into practice. Through this model, students not only stay confined to theoretical knowledge but also apply it practically, actively engaging in production. The team consists not only of engineering students but also includes students from social sciences such as psychology and international trade, who take responsibility for tasks like finding sponsors, promoting projects, and making business plans.

Dr. Süleyman Baştürk, the Director of the Electric, Autonomous, and Unmanned Vehicles Application and Research Center (AUTONOM) at Altınbaş University, indicated that the infrastructure created through EVA TEAM's efforts has now evolved into an application and research center. He mentioned that they operate in 2 offices and 6 laboratories/workshops, with a team consisting of approximately 130 students from various disciplines, including a high school student from Robert College. Dr. Baştürk emphasized the importance of enthusiastic young individuals like this student, who contribute to the team's success.

He further elaborated on EVA TEAM's achievements, mentioning their successes in various competitions such as Efficiency Challenge Electric Vehicle races and the 2023 TEKNOFEST, where they won the first prize in the Psychological Technological Applications category.

Dr. Baştürk also highlighted the expansion of the team's scope, including the establishment of a new team focusing on Cyber Security, EVA TCST, which will also participate in the TEKNOFEST competitions.

The team members shared their experiences and preparations for the competitions. Kemal Can Yılmaz, the team captain, emphasized the importance of EVA TEAM in his career development, as it led to his employment as a production planning engineer at Bosch's factory in Bursa before even graduating.

Meryem Nazım Beyoğlu, a sophomore in software engineering and the captain of EVA TCST, expressed her interest in white-hat hacking and her aspiration to develop in the field of cybersecurity.

Bayram Dikmen, a junior in software engineering and the captain of TUAV TEAM, which won the performance award in previous competitions, highlighted the interdisciplinary nature of their projects and the advantages it offers in terms of personal development and career opportunities.

Edanur Aktemur, a junior in computer engineering and the captain of the Administrative, Promotion, and Sponsorship Team, and the assistant captain of the Underwater Vehicle Team, shared her experiences in preparing for competitions and the challenges they face, including sleepless nights during testing phases.

Finally, Doç. Dr. Doğu Çağdaş Atilla, one of the academic advisors of EVA TEAM, emphasized the valuable experiences students gain through the process of project development and management, particularly in the transition of projects into TÜBİTAK-supported research projects. He highlighted the advantages of students leading these projects, both in terms of personal development and future career prospects in industries such as defense and aviation.

The success and growth of EVA TEAM stand as a testament to Altınbaş University's commitment to providing students with practical, interdisciplinary, and innovative educational opportunities that prepare them for the challenges of the future.
