The Dean's Handover Ceremony was held at Altınbaş University Faculty of Law. Prof. Dr. Mehmet Kamil Yıldırım, who has been serving as Dean for two years, handed over the flag to Prof. Dr. Hasan Sınar. Faculty of Law academicians and many students attended the ceremony with the participation of Rector Prof. Dr. Çağrı Erhan.
Delivering an emotional speech at the ceremony, Prof. Dr. Mehmet Kamil Yıldırım talked about the educational principles of law faculties and explained the characteristics of educated people. Prof. Dr. Kamil Yıldırım, who handed over the deanship to Prof. Dr. Hasan Sınar after two years, stated that the most important and most prominent quality of an educated person is the ability to make conscious choices in moral issues. “What we need to give to our students here is to enable them to filter different ideas from different angles and to find their own road maps through them.” Speaking about the importance of trained human resources, Prof. Dr. Yıldırım said that this is a chance and a promising situation for Türkiye, which has a young population. Stating that moral rules were effective when there were no legal norms, he touched upon the relationship between morality and law. He noted that an educated person should also have a certain amount of in-depth knowledge in any field and should develop the power of comparison and analysis. He suggested that students should discuss and analyze problems in all aspects and look at the issue through theories and methods. Yıldırım said, “My suggestion to my professors and friends is to maintain a dialog with our students. Let their windows always be open. We will move forward together with them. With your support, we are all a part of this work.” He concluded his words by saying.
Prof. Dr. Hasan Sınar, who took over as the Dean of Altınbaş University Faculty of Law, also expressed his happiness to take over the Dean's position of the faculty he took part in the establishment of. He started his speech by saying “This is my home” and continued as follows:
“I took part in the establishment of the faculty, I completed all academic stages such as Associate Professorship and Professorship here. At that time, we prepared a law education program with very rare and visionary elective courses. With the important support of Ayşegül Altınbaş, we implemented a double diploma law program for the first time in Türkiye in cooperation with the University of Cologne and we carried out extremely visionary studies under the roof of this faculty.” Pointing out that law is a living organism, constantly changing and developing like a human being, Sınar said, “The requirements and demands of legal education are also changing rapidly. We have to constantly adapt to this, constantly update and renew ourselves.”
Expressing his views on the newly introduced legal professions entrance exam, Sınar reminded that they are obliged to prepare the necessary infrastructure for students to be successful in this exam after graduation. In this context, he stated that they are determined to implement new projects in cooperation with the university's continuing education center. Stating that they are ambitious in this regard, Sınar continued his words as follows: “When we set out, we said that none of our students studying and graduating from this faculty would receive a lower quality education in any field than any other law faculty in Türkiye. Now we are facing a new challenge. We will make every effort to make our students the most successful in the entrance exam for the legal professions and I have no doubt that we will be successful in this.”
Prof. Dr. Hasan Sınar finally underlined that law education is not only about academic success. He stated that they endeavor to provide all the support they can for their students to raise themselves as thinking, questioning, researching and true intellectuals. “The most important thing is to be a good person,” said Sınar, ”You can be a very good lawyer, a very intellectual person. But you can also use them in a bad way. Therefore, our aim is undoubtedly to increase your academic success, undoubtedly to increase your intellectual capacity, but first of all, to raise you as good people who are always on the side of the good, the right and the just, and who constantly follow this motto like the pole star and do not leave its guidance.” and gave important advice to the future lawyers.
