Altınbaş University Hosted FICS 2024 Project Selection

The Finding Innovative and Creative Solutions (FICS) 2024 competition, which is organized every year with the participation of universities from many countries such as the USA, the United Kingdom and Azerbaijan took place at Altınbaş University this year.

Altınbaş University received 12 projects in the FICS 2024 project selection held at the Mahmutbey campus. Osama Abdelrehim Elsayed Ibrahim, a 3rd year PhD student in Electrical Engineering at Altınbaş University, won first place with his project named "Programmable FPGA Phased Array Antenna".

Aysu Yiğit and Muhammed Yılmaz from Istanbul University-Cerrahpaşa, who came second with their project titled "Cooling Paint", also qualified to participate in the grand finale to be held in Pakistan in July.

FICS is an international entrepreneurship program that encourages undergraduate and graduate students of the National University of Science and Technology (NUST), a stakeholder of Altınbaş University, to design technology-based solutions by focusing on real-world problems. The event, which is a global competition between the brightest minds offering innovative solutions to some of the world's most challenging problems, is organized in line with the United Nations' 17 sustainable development goals.

Hosted by our University this year, the event served as an important platform for students from Türkiye to showcase their creativity, problem-solving skills and innovative solutions on an international stage. Students also had the opportunity to interact with industry experts and learn about emerging technologies.

Altınbaş University Rector Prof. Dr. Çağrı Erhan made an opening speech at the award ceremony, which was also attended by Shadid Younus, Education Advisor of the Consulate General of Pakistan in Istanbul, and stated that the world is facing many serious problems; humanitarian crises, environmental pollution, global warming and man-made disasters are disrupting the world order. In this context, he emphasized the importance of young generations finding innovative solutions. Stating that young participants will play an important role in solving future problems and that such competitions encourage innovation, Erhan also stated that Türkiye and Pakistan are brotherly countries and that such events strengthen the bond between the two countries.

The ceremony ended with a cocktail after the awarding of the selected projects and a group photo session.
