40 Years In The Profession

Current Developments in Civil Law Symposium, organized by Altınbaş University Faculty of Law, addressed current developments in the field. The symposium was dedicated to the 40th anniversary of Civil Law Expert Prof. Dr. Şükran Şıpka.

Recent amendments were discussed at the Symposium on Current Developments in Civil Law organized by Altınbaş University Faculty of Law. Another important feature of the 2-day symposium, which was attended by many academicians and lawyers from different universities, was that it was a tribute to the 40th anniversary of Civil Law Specialist Prof. Dr. Şükran Şıpka.

Altınbaş University Rector Prof. Dr. Çağrı Erhan, who made the opening speech of the symposium, started his speech by saying, “I commemorate Prof. Dr. Şükran Şıpka, who left behind 40 years in the profession, with gratitude.”

Stating that Altınbaş University Faculty of Law, where Prof. Dr. Şükran Şıpka was the founding dean, is one of the faculties that admit students with the highest score among foundation universities today, Prof. Dr. Çağrı Erhan said, “In addition, our Dual Diploma Law program with the University of Cologne, the most popular program of legal education, which has left behind its 10th year this year, is also based on the efforts of Şükran Professor. I would also like to thank her for her term as Vice Rector. The most important moments in an academic's life are the works they leave behind when they look back.

The institutions he contributed to their establishment as much as the books. And most importantly, the people you raise. Prof. Şükran has trained more than 10,000 lawyers. She is an important academician who has brought many judges, prosecutors, lawyers and academicians to the Turkish legal family. I wish her many successful years.”

In terms of Civil Law, Prof. Dr. Erhan pointed out that the relations in human life are changing very rapidly and noted that the rules of law should be reorganized according to these changing conditions.

Stating that there will probably never be a period when killing a human being will cease to be a crime, Prof. Erhan said that the rules of civil law should be updated more rapidly according to the conditions of relations between people that change over time. Stating that the speed of law-making cannot respond to social changes at the same speed, Erhan said, “This symposium, organized here for the fourth time today, is important in that it includes all the recent changes. Today, the issue of inheritance law of metaverse assets or assets in the virtual world is being discussed. For example, this issue was never on the agenda before.”

Altınbaş University Faculty of Law Faculty Member and Civil Law Expert Prof. Dr. Şükran Şıpka started her speech by expressing her gratitude to the university and faculty management for presenting this day to her: Prof. Şıpka said:

“How did you spend 40 years in academia as a woman, wife and mother? We faced many difficulties, but we overcame all difficulties with love. I am glad that I became a civil lawyer and an academician. Today I see that I have also become a teacher of teachers. I would like to thank all the participants who contributed to the fourth symposium on current developments in civil law and did not leave me alone.”
In the 2-day symposium, the current situation and changes in many areas from the Law of Persons, Family Law, Inheritance Law and Property Law to the Law of Obligations were discussed by the expert jurists of the field.
