Digital Health Technologies and Medication Adherence

The Management Committee of the ENABLE COST Action, which aims to create a network to develop digital health technologies to increase medication adherence across Europe, was held in Istanbul and hosted by Altınbaş University.

The final management committee meeting of the ENABLE COST (European Network to Advance Best practices & technoLogy on medication adherencE, European Cooperation in Science and Technology) action, carried out under the Horizon 2020 Framework Program, took place on April 5-6, 2024, in Kalamış, Istanbul.

The main focus of the project is to develop digital health technologies aimed at improving patient medication adherence. Gaye Hafez, Head of the Department of Pharmacology at Altınbaş University Faculty of Pharmacy, together with action chair Job van Boven are still in collaboration in four working groups.

Gaye Hafez, as Türkiye representative, was the local organising chair of the meeting which 40 researchers from 35 European countries attended. This project aims to create a multidisciplinary network to develop digital health technologies to enhance medication adherence across Europe. As part of this effort, a repository of digital health technologies used in various European countries has been established. The Turkish company Albert Health is included in this repository with its application named "Albert," which features a voice reminder system.

During these two-day meetings, the latest developments were discussed, and a session on digital health in Türkiye was moderated by Gaye Hafez. Presentations were made by Burcu Ersoy from the Faculty of Medicine and Yaprak Sarıgöl Ordin from the Faculty of Nursing at Dokuz Eylül University, discussing their studies related to digital health products.

Yasemin Yücel, Gizem Yeğen, and pharmacy students İrem Dilara Duman, Merve Turan, Ahmet Hamdi Saraç, Doğa Bulut, İlayda Hayal Ekşi, Çağrı Budak, and Begüm Özbek were part of the organisation team.
