The Label Awards Ceremony at the 100th Year Conference Hall

Altınbaş University has inaugurated the 100th Year Conference Hall at the Gayrettepe Campus. The first event held in this venue was the award ceremony for the Local Governance Excellence Label.

​​​Altınbaş University opened the 100th Year Conference Hall at the Gayrettepe Campus as part of the 100th-anniversary celebrations of the Republic. The first event held in this hall was the Governance Excellence Label awards ceremony. The winners of the 2023 European Governance Excellence Label​ (ELoGE) by the Council of Europe were presented with their labels.

Under the leadership of Argüden Governance Academy by the National Platform consisting of The Acade​my, ALDA and Altınbaş University this year's label recipients included Ankara Metropolitan Municipality, Eskişehir Metropolitan Municipality, Bağcılar, Gebze, Sultanbeyli, and Şişli Municipalities.

Speaking at the award ceremony, Altınbaş University Rector Prof. Dr. Çağrı Erhan emphasized the importance of local governments and how their effective governance affects people's daily lives. He highlighted the role of city councils in evaluating and sustaining the success of local governments.

Niall Sheerin, Deputy Head of the European Centre of Expertise for Good Governance, stated that ELoGE serves as a mirror for local governments and invited other municipalities to apply next year.

Antonella Valmorbida, the Secretary-General of the Euro​pean Local Democracy Association, emphasized the significance of their collaboration with the Argüden Academy in recognizing the efforts of municipalities in local governance.

Dr. Yılmaz Argüden, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Argüden Governance Academy, poin​ted out that a society where institutions are trusted is critical for quality of life and a sustainable future. He highlighted the importance of adopting a culture of good governance in local governments for inclusive and participatory democracy.

After the label presentation ceremony, panels were held where mayors shared their experiences. Mansur Yavaş, the Mayor of Ankara Metropolitan Municipality, emphasized transparency and accountability in working closely with all segments of society. He noted that receiving the ELoGE would encourage other municipalities in the country to implement good governance practices.

The mayors of Sultanbeyli and Şişli also expressed their pride in receiving the ELoGE and shared their experiences in promoting participatory decision-making processes and initiatives in their respective municipalities.​
