Our TUBİTAK 2209 Success: Our Students Talked About Their Projects

Altınbaş University has achieved a significant success by being awarded 33 projects in TÜBİTAK 2209-A/B University Students Research Projects Support Program 2024/1st Semester. Students who received support shared their projects, research processes and goals at an event organized by the Dean of Research.

Ranking 29th among all universities and 14th among foundation universities in terms of project acceptance rate, Altınbaş University attracted attention with the acceptance of 33 projects out of 50 applications. In this success, which reflects the scientific research culture of our university, the guidance of the students as well as the mentor academics and the strong contribution of the technical infrastructure stand out.

The students who took the floor at the event explained the technical details and social impacts of their projects and stated that they improved their scientific competencies thanks to the opportunities provided by the university. 

Project successes from faculties 

Faculty of Pharmacy student Marjan Akbari, Dr. Assist. Prof. Dr. Ural Ufuk Demirel, designed isatin derivatives with anticancer potential and performed molecular interaction analysis. He stated that thanks to his project, he both contributed to cancer research and advanced his scientific development.

Faculty of Engineering and Architecture student Berkay Aşık, under the supervision of Assoc. Prof. Dr. Doğu Çağdaş Atilla, worked on the design of a digitally controlled and highly efficient power supply that aims to improve power management in electric vehicles. He stated that his project contributed to the production of sustainable domestic technology.

Beyza Gül Karagöz, one of Assoc. Prof. Dr. Atilla's students, said that she aims to create a technical infrastructure that will provide frictionless movement with Halbach magnet array for new generation transportation systems similar to Hyperloop.

In her project developed under the guidance of Assoc. Prof. Oğuz Ata, Ayşe Nur Zor stated that she aims to bring together individuals in need of social assistance or psychological support with volunteers, non-governmental organizations and experts in a safe digital environment in order to digitalize social solidarity.
 
Ümmügülsüm Tekeli, in her study conducted under the guidance of Assoc. Prof. Dr. Sefer Kurnaz, stated that she aims to contribute to public security by detecting unusual events such as traffic accidents, fights and theft in real time with deep learning-based image processing.
 
Assist. Assist. Sena Saka from our Faculty of Law, working under the supervision of Research Assistant Prof. Lütfiye Özge Temur, said that she aims to harmonize productive artificial intelligence with GDPR-like regulations, and also aims to develop legal and technical solutions to areas such as oblivion and copyrights by proposing a regulation specific to Turkey.

Furkan Kalali from the same faculty, Assoc. Assist. Sinan Özgan, Furkan Kalali from the same faculty, Assoc. Assist. Working under the supervision of Sinan Özgan, Furkan Kalali introduced his project, which aims to provide ease of use in R&D laboratories in a modular structure for unmanned aerial and underwater vehicles. 

Merve Nur Çiftçi, Özge Kaplan, Rana Yazıcı and Zehra Sude Demircan, who are also students of the Faculty of Engineering and Architecture and studying in the Department of Industrial Engineering, developed an interactive dashboard with Power BI in order to monitor the organizational structure of TAI more effectively. Prof. Dr. Fatih Yiğit, developed an interactive dashboard with Power BI to monitor TAI's organizational structure more effectively.

Fatma Yavuz from SHMYO, Lecturer Dr. Burçak Yavuz stated that in her project, she investigated the usability of exosomes obtained from St. John's wort plant in cancer treatment.

Faculty of Applied Sciences Efe Hüseyin Özkan, Assoc. Prof. Dr. İncilay Yıldız stated that he aims to develop an intelligent quality control system for defect detection in packaged foods. 

Faculty of Business Administration students Rümeysa Rençber, Azra Aydın and Rabia Akkadı designed a smart quality control system in packaged food production under the supervision of Dr. Lecturer Ayşegül Bayraktaroğlu Yıldız. Prof. Dr. Ayşegül Bayraktaroğlu Güner, shared that they aim to contribute to environmentally friendly consumption habits with their project examining the sustainable fashion perception of university students. 

Research culture starts at an early stage 

Altınbaş University Research Dean Assoc. Prof. Dr. Hakan Kaygusuz expressed his satisfaction that students transformed their scientific curiosity into projects in his evaluation at the event and used the following statements:

"We are proud to see the research-oriented vision of our university reflected in our students. These achievements are not only based on our laboratory facilities, but also on the strong interaction between advisor and student and our culture of interdisciplinary cooperation."
