"Don't Wait For Severe Pain For A Heart Attack.”
Prof. Dr. Özlem Esen emphasized the negative effects of some diets on heart health and gave important information about the negative effects of shock diets and rapid weight loss on heart health.
The unexpected death of Metin Arolat, one of the most beloved names in the Turkish music world, caused deep sadness among his loved ones and drew attention to an important health problem. Claims that Arolat's death may have been related to the shock diets he was on have once again highlighted the potential risks of rapid weight loss. Prof. Dr. Özlem Esen emphasized the negative effects of such diets on heart health and gave important information about the negative effects of shock diets and rapid weight loss on heart health.
Famous singer Metin Arolat died recently as a result of a sudden cardiac arrest on stage. While claims that Arolat's death may be related to the shock diets and sudden weight loss he practiced came to the agenda, this situation led to a new discussion on the effects of sudden weight loss and shock diets on heart health. Prof. Dr. Özlem Esen, Head of the Department of Cardiology at Altınbaş University Faculty of Medicine, made important evaluations about the causes of sudden cardiac arrests, the dangers of shock diets and the negative effects of rapid weight loss on heart health.
1 out of every 5 people who have a heart attack are between the ages of 35-45
First of all, Prof. Dr. Özlem Esen pointed out that the age of heart attack in Turkey has now spread over a very wide range and stated that Metin Arolat was one such young heart attack. Underlining that there may be many different reasons for Arolat's heart attack, Prof. Dr. Esen said, "Rather than speculative comments, if it is as it is said, yes, it has been proven by studies that shock diets can unfortunately cause heart attacks. Unfortunately, the fluidity of the blood is disrupted in shock diets, which we call sudden, aggressive, low-calorie, low-calorie, long starvation diets that the body is not used to. Inflammatory processes can develop in the body and heart attacks can be triggered. With shock diets, people actually think that they have lost weight, but some muscle loss may occur in the body. As you can see, there are many factors, but we do not recommend these diets in general. A slow and steady weight loss with a balanced diet is the healthiest," he said.
"Do not necessarily expect severe pain, minor aches and pains can also be a message"
Prof. Dr. Esen also gave information on how a dieter can understand whether this diet is bothering his/her heart, "We said that the main problem in shock diets is calorie imbalance, but the issues that affect our heart are the processes related to our blood pressure. Especially in rapid weight loss, a person may experience low blood pressure. There may be mineral deficiency and this can cause arrhythmia. Therefore, our heart stops when we feel weakness, unusual weakness, weakness, irregular heartbeat, dizziness, muscle aches, cramps, these are the little lines. There are actually small messages that we need to pay attention to. We need to read our body correctly and read its messages correctly. Unfortunately Metin Arolat also mentioned numbness in his left arm. Then he said he felt fine and went back to his performance. There can be small signs of a heart attack. It doesn't necessarily have to be a lot of pain or pain that we have never experienced in our lives. Even uncomfortable little aches and pains, burning in the back, heartburn in the chest, especially in the stomach, can all be signs of a heart attack. It is absolutely necessary to consult a physician and not say 'nothing can happen'. Diagnosis of a heart attack is now extremely easy. It is also technologically easy to treat. But delay can be just as vital," he said.
"Losing more than 10 percent of the current weight in the first 6 months is harmful"
Prof. Dr. Özlem Esen from Altınbaş University, who recommends that those who want to diet in a healthy way and do not want to neglect their heart health should be triggered in advance in this sense, concluded her words as follows:
"We do not want the person to lose more than 10 percent of their current weight in the first 6 months. Although rapid weight loss may seem attractive, this may result in a decrease in muscle mass and loss of fluid in the body. So what should we do? First of all, blood pressure measurements should be taken regularly. Also, if there is a family history of heart attack, the risk is almost 5 times higher than in healthy individuals, especially for men over the age of 45. Therefore, these people should be closely monitored. Blood pressure measurements, electrocardiography (ECG), body fat and muscle ratios, blood salt levels, sodium, potassium and other minerals, and cholesterol levels should be monitored regularly. An imbalance in blood cholesterol levels can impair vascular health and lead to serious health problems. Therefore, diets under regular medical supervision should not be feared. However, serious health problems can arise in cases of prolonged fasting and when the body does not get enough calories and minerals."
