With the rapid advancement of technology, some professions will be taken over by automation and artificial intelligence, while others will remain important and will continue to exist in the future. Altınbaş University AU INOVA Research Center Director and Faculty of Business Administration Faculty Member Assoc. Prof. Dr. Dicle Yurdakul made important recommendations for young people who will choose a university and department.
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Dicle Yurdakul emphasized that it is at least as important for students to make choices by considering which professions and skills will continue to be valid in the future, as it is for them to make choices in line with their own interests and the life they want to build in the future.
Pointing out that human-oriented and empathy-requiring professions in fields such as health, education, art and design, engineering and technology cannot be taken over by automation, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Yurdakul stated that young people should take this information into consideration when making their educational choices.
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Yurdakul stated that human-oriented professions in the health sector, especially elderly care, nursing, doctoring and therapist are among the professions that automation cannot easily take over, and said, “These professions that understand the emotional and physical needs of people, can empathize and require one-to-one communication will always continue to be in demand regardless of technological advances.”
Stating that the education sector will continue to have an important place in the future, Yurdakul emphasized that teachers and trainers who encourage personal development, vocational training and productive thinking are among the professions that automation cannot replace, and said, “Educators, especially those who encourage productive thinking, will have a big role in the future.” “For professions that require art, design and productivity, graphic designers, fashion designers, “For professions in the field of art and design, professionals such as graphic designers, fashion designers, interior designers will continue to be protected professions because they are an indispensable part of human productivity and aesthetic understanding,” Yurdakul said, adding, ”Although artificial intelligence algorithms are doing good work in these fields, these professions that require empathy and emotional intelligence will remain important for a long time. ” she said.
Yurdakul also stated that professions in the field of engineering and technology will continue to be of great importance in the future, and that especially fields such as artificial intelligence engineering, data science, robotics engineering and cyber security will gain even more importance as technology develops. “These professions will play a critical role in producing new technologies and improving existing systems,” Yurdakul said.
Yurdakul stated that artificial intelligence and machine learning experts, cyber security experts and data scientists are among the professions that will be popular and in demand in the future, and underlined that the demand for these professions will continue to increase every year. Yurdakul continued his speech as follows:
"According to the World Economic Forum Future of Jobs report, the demand for artificial intelligence and machine learning experts will increase by 60 percent by 2025. Experts in this field will produce data analysis, automation and innovative solutions in various sectors. Cybersecurity experts will also play a critical role in securing the digital world. As threats to data privacy and security increase, so will the demand for experts in this field. Data scientists and analysts help businesses make strategic decisions by analyzing large data sets. This is a critical role for business success and will become increasingly important."
Stating that e-commerce and digital marketing experts will also remain important in the future, Yurdakul emphasized that people who are experts in marketing and selling products and services through digital platforms are among the most important players of economic value. Yurdakul also said, “As the number of people who continue to shop on e-commerce platforms after the pandemic period has increased, this field has become even more important.”
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Dicle Yurdakul from Altınbaş University concluded his speech with two important reminders about the preference period for young people as follows:
"First, they should investigate whether the skills they will gain through the education they will receive will be important in the future and whether machines or computers will become more competent than humans in these skill areas. Secondly, they should make informed choices by researching whether the professions they choose in the future are the ones that will remain valid. They can access this information through internet research, reading reports published by the World Economic Forum, universities, consulting companies and professional organizations. Universities and academics are also ready to help them in every way."
