From Thessaloniki to Anıtkabir: 100th Year Events

A delegation led by Altınbaş University Rector Prof. Dr. Çağrı Erhan visited Anıtkabir as part of the Gift to the 100th Anniversary of Our Republic: 100 Events project.

As part of the 100 events organized in commemoration of the 100th year of our Republic, Altınbaş University visited Anıtkabir.

Led by Rector Prof. Dr. Çağrı Erhan, the delegation, consisting of deans, department heads, and numerous academicians, walked the Lion's Road, laid a wreath at the mausoleum of ATATÜRK, and observed a moment of silence. On behalf of Altınbaş University, Prof. Dr. Erhan signed the Anıtkabir Special Notebook at the Misak-ı Milli Tower. The message shared by Prof. Dr. Erhan in the Anıtkabir Special Notebook is as follows:

Dear Atatürk,

As the members of Altınbaş University, we are honored to be in your spiritual presence on the 100th anniversary of the Republic of Turkey, which you founded.

Our university, approaching science from a universal perspective, successfully continues its educational, research, and community service activities with 13,500 students from 105 countries around the world, firmly committed to your principles and ideals, in its 15th year of establishment.

In consciousness of the responsibility we carry to preserve your unique legacy and strengthen our national unity and solidarity, we celebrate the 100th year of our Republic with 100 events that will add depth to our world of science and art, along with 100 original books.

As Altınbaş University, we will continue to work with determination under the guidance of science to advance our Republic in the direction you have shown.

After the official ceremony at Anıtkabir, the delegation visited the War of Independence Museum in the First Parliament building and the Republic Museum in the Second Parliament building.

Making an evaluation of the event, Rector Prof. Dr. Erhan stated that Altınbaş University started the celebrations of the 100th year of our Republic by visiting the house where Mustafa Kemal Atatürk was born in Thessaloniki on November 10, 2022. Erhan said, "Today is December 11, 2023, and we are at Anıtkabir, the eternal resting place of the founder of our Republic, Gazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk. We, as Altınbaş University academic, administrative staff, and students, are here. We expressed that we will adhere to his principles and ideals. Long live the Republic of Turkey!" he spoke.

Prof. Dr. Çağrı Erhan said that in one year, they tried to create social awareness about the gains and values of the Republic within the scope of the 100th year through many national and international events.

Stating that they will continue the activities in 2024, Prof. Dr. Erhan mentioned that they brought the "Göbeklitepe 101 Documentary," which tells the story of Göbeklitepe, which will be our most important brand in the future, and is published in 5 languages, to Turkey. Erhan said, "We will continue the 100-book project that we have dedicated to the 100th year of our Republic as a gift. Books are prepared by scientists from various fields of science such as education, economics, international relations. So far, 50 books have been published in the series. We will complete the printing of 100 books as soon as possible. During this period, competitions and various trips attended by many students were organized as part of the project, the total cost of which exceeded 10 million TL," he said.

Prof. Dr. Turgut İpek, the Chairman of the Altınbaş University 100th Year Events Commission, also stated, “We are at peace on the 100th anniversary of our Republic. This must be the true meaning of being at peace in the world and in Turkey. We are in an incredible flood of emotion. We are grateful to all our comrades-in-arms, especially Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, who gave us the Republic as a gift. We say 'Republic Forever,'" he made evaluations.
