Altınbaş University AU INOVA Research Center Director Assoc. Prof. Dr. Dicle Yurdakul evaluated the latest developments in artificial intelligence and the moves we have made as Altınbaş University.

In addition to the technical developments in the field of artificial intelligence, social and cultural transformations are also at the center of the world agenda. According to the evaluations of Altınbaş University AU INOVA Research Center Director Assoc. Prof. Dr. Dicle Yurdakul, artificial intelligence is radically transforming not only engineering fields but also many disciplines such as law, art, communication, health and education.

Large language models and multi-modal artificial intelligence systems developed by pioneering organizations such as OpenAI, Google DeepMind, Anthropic and Mistral have enabled applications that required expertise only a few years ago to be used even by high school students today. However, according to Assoc. Prof. Yurdakul, addressing these developments only from a technical perspective means ignoring the social impacts of artificial intelligence.

“We cannot build a future solely on algorithms without understanding the relationship between artificial intelligence and human beings, without analyzing the ways of thinking and communication transformed by these systems,” Yurdakul said, emphasizing that different disciplines should be integrated into the field of artificial intelligence.

In the new world shaped by artificial intelligence, not only coding skills but also critical thinking, ethical evaluation and interdisciplinary analysis competencies come to the fore. Altınbaş University stands out with its visionary programs and research centers that will guide its students in this transformation process.

AI Horizon Interdisciplinary Certificate Program

Open to all undergraduate and graduate students of the university, AI Horizon offers a multifaceted certificate program that covers not only the technical aspects of artificial intelligence, but also its ethical, legal, social and cultural dimensions. Students who successfully complete four courses in the program, which is conducted in English, are entitled to receive the “Artificial Intelligence Specialization Certificate”, which is recorded on their transcripts. Students from many different departments, from health sciences to social sciences, can participate in the program.

AI4HUMAN: A Human-Centered Approach to Technology

AI4HUMAN Research Center, established under the roof of Altınbaş University, deals with the interaction between artificial intelligence and humans in depth. Focusing on ethical values, cultural approaches and human-oriented technology design, the center offers students not only education but also research, project development and international cooperation opportunities.

“Preparing for the future means not only choosing a profession, but also choosing a relationship with the world, values and contribution to society,” Assoc. Prof. Dr. Yurdakul said, adding that visionary programs and interdisciplinary development opportunities should be considered as much as departments in university preferences.

Altınbaş University aims to raise individuals who are not only technologically competent in the age of artificial intelligence, but also individuals who have the intellectual equipment to shape technology and who have developed a critical and ethical perspective.
