Prof. Dr. Neşe Buket Aksu: “The perspective on success is changing”

Prof. Dr. Neşe Buket Aksu from Altınbaş University Faculty of Pharmacy was the guest of the “Happy Education” program broadcast on Radio Başakşehir and presented by Nevin Saygılı Yıldız.

Prof. Dr. Neşe Buket Aksu, one of the faculty members of our Faculty of Pharmacy, evaluated how the definition of success in education has changed over the years and the effects of this change on young people in the ‘Happy Education’ program broadcast on Radio Başakşehir and presented by Nevin Saygılı Yıldız. Emphasizing that academic achievement-oriented systems create anxiety and burnout in students, Prof. Dr. Aksu said, “We have to leave an understanding of success measured only by grades and take into account the emotional, social and ethical development of the individual.”

The program also addressed the concepts of happiness, meaning and intrinsic motivation in education. Aksu emphasized that the mental well-being of students, especially in the post-pandemic period, is decisive on educational success. Considering success as not only an individual but also a social process, Aksu said, “A student growing up as a happy, self-confident and self-expressive individual is the success of the society.”

In the program, which was shaped by the questions posed by Nevin Saygılı Yıldız, important messages were given to families and educators. Aksu concluded by saying, “When talking about success, we should not forget to hear the child's voice, understand and support them.”

The program attracted great interest from listeners who wanted to rethink the perception of success in education.
