It is Possible to Start Again

Ertuğrul Tut, Director of Education, Promotion and Guidance Services at Altınbaş University, made critical suggestions to students who want to try their luck in transfer.

During the preference period, the advice of career counselors and guidance counselors to prospective students in choosing a university is sometimes ignored by the candidates or the incompatibility is realized later. The transfer period, on the other hand, offers university students a second chance to continue their education in departments they will be happy with. Starting on January 9, 2025, many university students will take action to achieve their dreams for the transfer applications. Ertuğrul Tut, Director of Education, Promotion and Guidance Services at Altınbaş University, made critical suggestions to students who want to try the chance of transfer and said, “Be where you will be happy. Make good use of the transfer application period.”

What is transfer?

Reminding that transfer is the right of university students to continue their education at another university or department by meeting certain conditions, Ertuğrul Tut clarified the points to be considered as this process is an important decision both academically and personally.

Things to consider in inter-institutional transfer

Inter-institutional transfer can be made between equivalent diploma programs determined by the Council of Higher Education (YÖK). Ertuğrul Tut stated that in order to make this transfer, first of all, the GPA must be at least 60 out of 100. “Alternatively, the central placement score should be sufficient and also, the quotas determined by YÖK and the special conditions of the university should be considered.”

Things to consider for intra-institutional transfer

Stating that in intra-institutional transfer, the student is allowed to transfer to a different program within the university where he / she is enrolled, Ertuğrul Tut said, “Quotas and special conditions determined by the university are also valid here.

Transfer with central placement score

Ertuğrul Tut stated that students can transfer using the central placement score they received the year they took the exam. However, he underlined that the score must be equal to or above the base score of the department to be transferred. Reminding that the special conditions specified in the ÖSYS guide must be met, he emphasized that this right can only be used once.

Pay attention to these 3 items for the right decision!

Pointing out that some conditions may differ according to the legislation of universities, Ertuğrul Tut said, “For this reason, it is useful to contact the university you are considering for transfer and learn the conditions.” He said.

Ertuğrul Tut summarized 3 articles in advice to students who are considering transferring.

- Be sure to visit the campus of the university you want to transfer to.

- Meet with academics in the department to make a healthy decision.

- Be sure to learn the legislation and special conditions of the university.

Tut informed that, for example, there is a 100% scholarship application in all undergraduate programs in inter-institutional domestic transfers for the Spring semester of 2024-2025 at their universities, provided that it is valid only for the first semester. He said that after completing the first semester with 100% scholarship, Medicine, Dentistry and Pharmacy programs can continue with a 25% discount rate and other programs with a 50% discount rate for the following years. In case of dropping out of the programs at the end of the first year, 50% of the first year program fee must be paid. He added that a 50% discount will also be applied for students accepted to associate degree programs.

Altınbaş University Education, Promotion and Guidance Services Manager Tut finally said, “Of course, there is a return from every mistake, but it is also in the hands of our students to act with some precautions before making the mistake. Successful results will come with successful results where we are happy.”
