“The Function of Artificial Intelligence is to Take Over Routine Tasks”
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Dicle Yurdakul from Altınbaş University stated that it is very important to have this information and said, “Knowing which professions will exist in the future helps to make career choices accordingly.
It is possible to say that artificial intelligence can create a serious erosion on professions. It is even thought that some professions will disappear completely. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Dicle Yurdakul stated that it is very important to have this information and said, “Knowing which professions will exist in the future helps to make career choices accordingly. At this point, it is critical to direct our children to fields that can be permanent in the future.”
“Artificial intelligence has replaced humans in assembly lines and call centers”
Altınbaş University Faculty of Business Administration, AUINOVA Marketing and Neuromarketing Application and Research Center Director Assoc. Prof. Dr. Dicle Yurdakul explained the place of artificial intelligence in our daily lives. Underlining that its main task is to undertake routine tasks, that is, tasks that are repetitive and dependent on standard procedures, she gave examples. Stating that machines have replaced manpower in assembly lines, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Yurdakul said, “As automation increases, artificial intelligence and algorithm-laden robots that can perform more complex tasks are gradually reducing manpower in the production sector. A similar situation is happening in call centers; chatbots that answer standard questions have started to take over the jobs of customer representatives.”
Referring to the increasing dominance of artificial intelligence in data entry and processing, Yurdakul said, “For example, algorithms that analyze data instead of an accountant or finance employee can speed up data processing. In this case, it seems that creative areas outside of routine work will remain in the hands of humans, but this is not an accurate prediction. Productive artificial intelligence can now produce creative content such as paintings, poems, videos and music.”
“We still have jobs and professions that require a human touch”
According to Assoc. Prof. Dr. Dicle Yurdakul from Altınbaş University, it is difficult to transfer professions that require human touch to artificial intelligence. Professions that require emotional intelligence such as leadership, motivation, psychological counseling and one-to-one contact are areas that are not expected to be included in the field of artificial intelligence. Noting that there is a similar situation in the health sector, Yurdakul believes that these jobs will continue to be done by humans, as empathy and emotional context are at the forefront in professions such as caregivers and nurses. “You can ask artificial intelligence a question about your job. It can give you a logical explanation about which decision is right, but it doesn't have the ability to lead or motivate. Therefore, jobs and professions that require human touch will continue to remain in our hands.”
“Can Artificial Intelligence be a Lawyer or Psychological Counselor?”
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Dicle Yurdakul stated that jobs that require one-to-one relationship and personal negotiation cannot be transferred to artificial intelligence at the moment. She explained that it is currently not possible for a lawyer to use an algorithm in a situation that requires one-on-one, personal negotiation. He stated that this algorithm can scan the laws, find precedent decisions, but it cannot perform that negotiation. He emphasized that it is the human touch and one-to-one guidance that is sought there.
In the same way, he stated that artificial intelligence can determine what kind of psychological counseling an individual may need based on the data of hundreds of thousands of people. However, he also believes that he is not in a position to guide the person in the right way at this stage.
“The rate of development of artificial intelligence exceeds predictions”
Explaining that it is also difficult to predict how long this will continue considering the speed of development of artificial intelligence, Yurdakul said, “A technological development, artificial intelligence development that I predicted would take place in 5 years can come to me within 6 months. On average, there are 3-year deviations in our predictions. In other words, something that I think will happen in 3 years can happen tomorrow. Therefore, the idea that my profession is completely safe, that my profession cannot be taken away from me will not be accurate.” Emphasizing that the issue is actually to see both these threats and possible opportunities, Yurdakul said, “We should look at how we can strengthen our jobs, ourselves, our skills, our future and our lives with artificial intelligence. It is misleading to assume that jobs are completely secure in the future. Therefore, we should be prepared for the future by strengthening our professional skills and business areas with artificial intelligence.”
