Message from the Head of Department
Dear Young People
In today's world, many social and economic difficulties are inevitably experienced, especially due to migration and urbanization, and all these difficulties make the lives of individuals and societies more difficult and call on states to take responsibility in many areas. Social work is an applied social sciences discipline that tries to understand the problems experienced by individuals at all levels, to produce solutions and interventions to these problems, to influence policies by advocating for rights, and to continue all these efforts "with people, not for people".
In addition to its theoretical knowledge, social work benefits from many different disciplines such as economics, psychology, psychiatry, sociology, law, education, anthropology, ecology, public health and public administration, and adopts an interdisciplinary perspective. This close relationship of social work with different fields is reflected in the undergraduate curriculum of the Department of Social Work in direct proportion, and students graduate from the department with a wealth of knowledge by taking a wide variety of courses from the first year.
Altınbaş University Department of Social Work was established under the umbrella of the Faculty of Economics, Administrative and Social Sciences in the 2017-2018 academic year. The department aims to implement a student-centered education approach with the enthusiastic motivation of its young and dynamic faculty members. In this direction, Altınbaş University Department of Social Work aims to train social workers who recognize the social, cultural and economic characteristics of the society in which they live, see problems, criticize and produce solutions when necessary, accept all differences, tolerate people, identify rights advocacy with their profession, free from prejudices as much as possible, have high communication skills, have self-confidence and equipped social workers. All compulsory and elective courses within the curriculum offered to students in the department and compulsory internship practices serve to train social workers in accordance with these qualifications.
Graduates of the Department of Social Work will have the opportunity to work in the central units and provincial directorates of the Ministry of Family and Social Policies, Ministry of Health, Ministry of Justice, Ministry of Labor and Social Security; local governments or in many institutions such as nurseries and day care centers, kindergartens, nursing homes, social assistance counseling centers, non-governmental organizations, hospitals and educational institutions.
It is our greatest desire to see among us candidates who are sensitive to social problems, aware of the importance of concepts such as social justice and equality in life, willing to choose this field voluntarily and determined to be a practitioner of social development.
