Trade wars, Central Banks' interest rate policies and Chinese incentives will leave their mark on 2025

Organized at Altınbaş University, the “Economy Summit” brought together the business world, academics and investment experts and became an important platform for discussing predictions about the global and Turkish economy. Representatives of Alnus Investment, Atlas Portföy and other financial institutions attended the event within the scope of C-Talks organized by the University's Dean of Students' Office to bring together industry representatives and students. In the event, where predictions for 2025 were shared, important information was also shared on financial literacy, investment strategies and management of economic risks.

Yusuf Kavak Trade wars and geopolitical tensions at the forefront

In his speech at the summit, Yusuf Kavak, Research Manager at Alnus Investment, touched upon the expectations for the global economy in 2025. Pointing out that trade wars may take precedence over monetary policies and geopolitical developments, Kavak stated that the re-election of Donald Trump may increase the risks. “Trump's arrival may accelerate the US's attempts to increase its global hegemony,” Kavak said, noting that trade wars may not only be limited to China but may affect the whole world.

Referring to geopolitical risks in the Middle East, Kavak said that Israel's unilateral initiatives in Syria may increase geopolitical tensions again in 2025. It was emphasized that this may affect the risk appetite in global markets.

Central Banks' interest rate policies and Chinese incentives

At the summit, it was stated that the monetary policy steps of major central banks will be decisive in the future of the global economy. The interest rate cut cycle of major central banks, especially the Fed, and the effects of stimulus from China on the markets were discussed. Kavak pointed out that supply-driven inflation risks may make it difficult for central banks to intervene, as in the case of the pandemic and trade wars.

He also highlighted the importance of the Chinese economy's stimulus policies in strategic areas such as the real estate sector and electric vehicles.

Turkish Economy: The cycle of inflation and interest rate cuts

In the Turkish economy, the most important agenda item for 2025 is expected to be the fight against inflation and the CBRT's interest rate cut cycle. Yusuf Kavak stated that the CBRT may cut interest rates by a total of 20 points throughout the year, and that fiscal, agricultural and trade policies will also play a critical role in this process.

Value-added production and technological indigenization steps to close Türkiye's foreign trade deficit were among other important issues discussed. If geopolitical risks ease, the housing market and food prices may normalize.

Elif Pehlivanlı, General Manager of Atlas Portföy, shared the advantages of mutual funds with the participants.
